1972 Yamaha DT2MX

This is a fully restored example of Yamaha's first purpose-built (not based on enduro model) motocross machine. Assembled with many new old stock parts that are no longer available.

The DT2MX (250cc) and RT2MX (360cc) were the predecessors to the YZ line that would be introduced in the US in 1974. While the bike was specifically built for motocross competition, its engine was based on the venerable DT-1 powerplant dating back to 1968. Higher compression head was mated with a reed valve cylinder, cross-through exhaust and a points-style ignition. The results were astonishingly good for 1972 and the DT2 became a very sought-after motorcycle for many forms of racing beyond motocross.

Very few correct examples of the DT2MX exist to this day.
